Maya Angelou R.I.P. 5/28/14

Caged Bird

A free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wing
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage
can seldom see through
his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and
his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.

The free bird thinks of another breeze
and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn bright lawn
and he names the sky his own

But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.

Strong by Anthony Morgan

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Walking around in circles with my eyes upon you.
I watched you worship,
I felt your praise,
It drove me crazy in the awe that you gave.
Spiritual nature,
The devils hate her,
Creating problems in her life to assassinate her,
But God made her,
She is invincible by her maker,
So strong her strength illuminates to dim the failures.
Why?
Because she put her life in God's hands and not in man,
You may struggle in life but he has a plan,
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me",
All because I heard God say "Trust Me!"
She did.
Strong by race because black is beautiful,
Strong by gender because women endure more than men do,
Strong by faith in the King of all Kings,
Weak by no man, strong in Christianity.

My horrible Wednesday 2/5/14 by Anthony Morgan

I had the worst day ever,
Woke up on the wrong side of the bed with no cover,
I got up late my shower was too long,
Late for work while the phone is playing the wrong song,
Unlocked the car got in and closed the door,
Planning to speed my car is about to soar,
Something is wrong,
My window falls down into the door,
Bad Wednesday that started from the core,
Parked it at a friend's house right before she left,
Walked to work and the burning sun is building up the stress,
Two hours later it rained so damn hard,
An hour of my life thinking about my soaked car,
That night I said forget it,
My Wednesday has to move on,
I left and went bowling but my sadness rolled on,
I paid for the night and walked to my lane,
Unloaded, changed my shoes, ignoring everyone in my way,
I said hi to my homie and the three girls I stayed away,
I can introduce myself later so that's okay,
At a moments notice I thought I was going insane,
One of these girls called out to me by my name,
I looked up only to see the most familiar face,
And instantly my horribly terrible Wednesday became my ace,
Separated by time and years of space,
And here you are in this little space,
My frown was flipped upside down,
Looking like a truly surprised clown,
Here your are,
I stepped to you,
You smiled at me,
This night was truly meant to be,
A second chance in life for you and me,
My feelings released in your company,
I hugged you so tight,
You held me the same,
I kissed your neck repeatedly in a happy way,
We bonded that night,
I got your number because to see you is to see the light,
I let you go a long time ago,
I felt ashamed and stupid and immature I know,
God placed you back in my life so I can't let him down,
My second chance to never let you go I'm love-bound,
I missed you,
It was like love at first sight,
My broken heart has found a new might,
I doubt your single and ready to mingle,
Amazing as you are only a star can be your star,
Story of my life I hope we can try,
I've always loved you...sigh.

Charlie F. Kane (1/14/1989 / Solihull, Birmingham)

The Last of the Romantics

The last of the romantics,
Last of a dying breed.
A rose held in a tight grip-
A present for the thought
Of the one he loves.
The last of the romantics.
A red rose encased in barbed wire.
The last of the romantics,
One among a dying breed.
The last of the romantics-
Proud to be individual,
Hates feeling so alone.
The last of the romantics-
Dancing in the rain.
The last of the romantics-
Kissing under moonlight.
The last of the romantics-
Raging against the light,
Fighting against been torn down.

As long as romance exists there is hope,
And the last of the romantics will remain so.

Memories

Memories of good times
Memories of bad times
Memories of our love
So many memories

Memories of us crying
Memories of us laughing
Memories of our commitment
So many memories

Memories of us hugging
Memories of us kissing
Memories of those late nights
So many memories

Memories of how we met
Memories of how you left
Memories of what you said
So many memories

Why did you leave me
with so many memories
Did you ever realize
that my memories are yours

Everything we did together
stays within our memories
I remember getting hurt
Do you hurt too

Let's make a new memory
that we can both share
Let's love again
in our memories.

Aftermath by Amy Lowell 1912

I learnt to write to you in happier days,
And every letter was a piece I chipped
From off my heart, a fragment newly clipped
From the mosaic of life; its blues and grays,
Its throbbing reds, I gave to earn your praise.
To make a pavement for your feet I stripped
My soul for you to walk upon, and slipped
Beneath your steps to soften all your ways.
But now my letters are like blossoms pale
We strew upon a grave with hopeless tears.
I ask no recompense, I shall not fail
Although you do not heed; the long, sad years
Still pass, and still I scatter flowers frail,
And whisper words of love which no one hears.

Smile For Me by Antonio Lockridge

'Smile for me!

Is somebody waiting for me?

She took this picture

Did she take it for me?

Time is ticking,

Her smile insists, just to tell her was she waiting me?

When she smiles, I feel it, I know, I see it.

When she’s happy,

Smiles so bright, gives me another reason

For her her I’d fight!

I am happy when she’s happy

I smile when she smiles

I face the fact that it’s just her smile.

But I know inside,

Deep inside that smile,

She smiles for me, just for awhile.

A picture perfected, you should see

I just love it when she smiles for me.

She inspires me to reach out my hand

Hold her close

Let her stand

That smile of hers, no one can take,

No matter how early, no matter how late.

The time it takes, you must understand

It starting now, it starts again.

When you see her smile

It makes you see, just how deep is her real beauty.

To display her I would

Smile for me she should

My day would be complete, when she even smiles for me.

Those eyes, that skin, her hair, that grin

Makes you forget what world you are in

Her eyes I gaze

Her hands so soft

When she?

Will she?

I think she ought.

Smile for me, not the first or the last

Just smile for me, my time has past

I wait to see that smile she wore

She smiles for me forevermore.

Did I miss it?

Here it comes, a smile for me is coming out

But when, If, I wonder how.

She smiles when she sees me, when I am no where around

That smile she has inspires us all.

Will she smile? will she smile at all?

I wait to see, is it coming out? That smile is here,

It’s out it’s out

Taken with time

A grin so new

Just one more smile

Ok make it two.

Held in my arms.

Waiting’ to see.

Smiling, waiting, too much to ask,

But smile for me, at last, at last!

I saw one coming out

Here’s another

She smiles, she smiles like no other.
When she, will she, I should wonder,
But that smile of hers is the 9th world wonder.

Smile for me, smile wide smile bright!
Give me a smile to rest with tonight.

My smile is yours as you can see,
But smile for me so they all can see.

Hidden behind that timeless frame,
Is a smile I would love to see again and again'
